Hello everyone! As some of you may have noticed I changed my art level to 'professional' ...despite not working in the industry or even having any art degree. I'm no longer a student (as I finally graduated after 7.5 years woo hoo!!) and I have bigger aspirations for my art than for it to be a mere hobby (even if it's all that it currently is to me) so professional seemed to fit. I also want to be seen as a more serious artist out there online so the change seemed fitting, even if it gives me terrible imposter syndrome.

Last year was quite eventful as I got plenty of life milestones out of the way (engagement, finishing uni, marriage, graduation) so this finally allows me to focus on my art. Those who followed me for some time know I've studied architecture and absolutely hated it, they kept failing me by 2% away from passing, increased coursework expectations during the pandemic even though our resources were limited, deliberately withheld submission criteria from me, and were extremely subjective when judging my work, yet I somehow persevered through all of this to get a masters degree, hoping it would at least get me a 'proper' job, just like I have been brainwashed into thinking 'get a stem degree' they said, 'you'll never have to flip burgers or worry about finances' they said. Well, it didn't turn out to be true as the job market is shit due to recession and covid but at least I have some shitty min wage retail job so I can afford a very modest life while drawing in the evenings. This is the year I'll do my best to heal my emotional wounds and burnout from the past and finally start living life for myself.

Despite me wanting to do that since 2017, but due to reasons stated above only this year I can go full effort on Polsterreich. It mostly consists of research and writing and art is only a small part of it, but nonetheless definitely expect a lot of art from the this year! My new year's resolution was to contribute to Polsterreich every day and I've been successful so far two weeks in. With this level of progress I can definitely see the story finished this year. Then will come the comic, drawing and marketing and I can't wait to show it off to you guys as I'm extremely proud of my written work, more so than my drawings. I always saw my writing as my main skill and drawing only as a means to tell my story. I'm an immigrant and have been moving around countries for most of my life so drawing was the only accurate way to tell my stories without a language barrier getting in the way.

One year anniversary of eclipse is being forced is coming up, in honour of it I’ll list the ways this site feels downgraded.

1. deviations/watch being displayed above feedback notifications - this guaranteed your deviations were seen by everyone you watch dA’s unique inbox style content delivery instead of an algorithmic feed made it a perfect website for artists to grow. With the new layout I’ve been missing a lot of updates from my friends as it took me months to find the deviations/all watch options.

I also miss the way going through deviations was streamlined, you could view, add to favourites, remove it from your inbox and view the next deviation from different users without ever having to navigate back a page.

2. Drag and drop favourites. Its something the staff have supposedly been working on all year? It feels really spammy nowadays how it adds it automatically to featured and doesn’t let you choose collection until later, causing duplicate notifications.

The same goes with deviations and uploads. I feel uncomfortable having 'all' displayed before featured. At least allow us to hide the 'all' folder? Scraps cannot be part of other folders?

We have way less flexibility with folders than ever before.

3. Accurate time stamps. ‘1 day ago‘ implies the notification has been sitting there for 24h+ when in reality it can be as fresh as couple of minutes old, that just so happened to be minutes before midnight.

4. Daily deviations displayed at the bottom of the page. That way every single active user caught a glimpse of them. Nowadays I haven’t seen a DD in a year.

5. I don’t know how they supposedly made eclipse more efficient as it throttles my browser if I have more than one tab of dA open. This really makes the website unusable for me. Of course their excuse is to make it more mobile friendly, but it throttles even my phone! I've heard the app is even worse, I haven't ever used it.

In fact, there wasn't even a journal writing option from the mobile layout, I had to activate the desktop site layout on my phone and awkwardly type it so apologies for the typos.

There have been a few things I like about eclipse, such as the ability to delete comments, the new headbar and the option to watch/llama back from the inbox. But it’s not enough to make up for what was lost.
